I want to lead with this very important note:

Always follow your upholsterer or workroom's advice when purchasing fabric!

Nothing is worse than having a hot prospect ready to commit to a project and you have to say, "Wait, let me get a quote to you on Monday." Or worse, you create a beautiful design with custom upholstery and carefully selected fabric...and find out it's too expensive for the budget and either have to wipe egg off your face with the client to ask for a higher budget, or eat it in the profit margin.

Using this yardage guide to start the estimating process and adding appropriate additional yardage for pattern repeat, will allow you to at least be in the budget ballpark with a client. From my experience, if you let them know, "I will need to double check with my work room, but I can estimate X yards." (or X dollars), you will more likely close the sale!

Two important notes on this guide:

• If you have "oversized" upholstery, these amounts may increase DRAMATICALLY because yardage is based on the assumption that the fabric may be "split" meaning cuts will be less than 25" wide.
• If your workroom matches everything - beyond a pattern flow match level - you may need 10-15% more to accommodate.
